In Minecraft, there’s already plenty going on in player bases, so having powerful tools & weapons makes life easier for you to survive.

In addition, enhancing weapons in Minecraft increases their longevity and uncovers special abilities.

The key benefits of sword enchantments in Minecraft are –

  • An enchanted sword reduces the risk of your player being injured.
  • An enchanting sword will unlock additional enchantments suitable for specific situations.

How Many Enchantments Can a Sword Have?

You can apply multiple enchantments on a sword depending on your needs but with a specific limitation of how many.

Because of compatibility, you can’t use some enchantments together on a sword in Minecraft.

The purpose of each enchantment should be obvious when being applied to a sword. The sole purpose of enchantment is to make a sword more effective, and durable, and bring extra benefits.

Best Sword Enchantments In Minecraft (2022 Update)

Prerequisite: let’s start with how the enchantment system in the world of Minecraft works. Each enchants are perks that can be applied to the weapons & tools. In addition, every enchantment poses unique abilities.

Minecraft enchanting requires building an Enchantment Table. You will also require a unique material called Lapis Lazuli to enchant materials. The amount of required Lapis Lazuli used will depend on the enchantment type and the item you’re trying to enchant.

Additionally, you will require experience Levels to execute an enchantment. You can gain experience points from defeating enemies, meddling in Minecraft, crafting, mining, and smelting.

Then experience levels can be increased by surrounding the Enchantment Table with Bookshelves. The higher the number of your bookshelves, the more elevated the experience level you gains.

Once you have everything ready, you are ready to explore these Sword enchantments you can apply in Minecraft.

1. Bane of Arthropods (Max level: 5)

bane_of_arthropods_sword

When you want to be most efficient in killing arthropods mobs in Minecraft, the Bane of Arthropods sword enchantment is perfect.

Bane means something that causes demise, particularly by poison. To be the bane of arthropods, it must suggest that your enchantment is doing something special to outrage the oppositions that suggest insects, spiders, centipedes, and even scorpions.

When you get this perk, enemies like spiders, cave spiders, endermites, and silverfish can be dealt with efficiently. This enchantment also causes slowness to arthropods depending on the level of the Bane of Arthropods, which is handy to deal with multiple enemies simultaneously.

Each level of this enchantment on a sword adds a factor of 2.5 damage to the arthropods. At the maximum level of this enchantment, you’ll be dealing at least a minimum of 20.5 damage per hit. While exploring caves and beehives, you will need this enchant for the best chance against enemy mobs.

2. Smite (Max level: 5)

Smite-Best-Sword-Enchantments-In-Minecraft

A combination of living and non-living makes Minecraft more enjoyable. When you face a horde of zombies or skeletons in the game, make sure to have the Smite enchantment for coming out on top. Smite is one of the best sword enchantments in Minecraft to increase the hit rate to undead mobs.

Smite’s highest level is 5. Each level of Smite increases 2.5× 1.25 extra damage per hit to the undead mobs. Smite, and Bane of Arthropods are mutually exclusive to pile up the effect. When you have a sword with 8 base damage, having the maximum level of Smite on it will let you impose 20.5 damage effortlessly.

Many players on Minecraft prefer Sharpness for making swords balanced and high damage-dealing. Unfortunately, if you are one of them, the Smite enchantment might not fit with Sharpness because they can’t be assembled.

Here’s are the list of damage per hit with Smite enchantment on different swords:

  • Wooden sword – base damage increases from 6.5 up to 16.5 with smite level 5.
  • Gold sword – base damage increases from 6.5 with smite level 1 up to 16.5 with smite level 5.
  • Stone sword – base damage increases from 7.5 with smite level 1 up to 17.5 with max level.
  • Iron sword – damage goes up to 18.5 with max level smite enchantment.
  • Diamond sword – damage reaches up to 19.5 with max level smite enchantment.
  • Netherite sword – Base damage increases from 10.5 up to 20.5 when max Smite is applied.

3. Sharpness (Max level: 5)

Sharpness-enchantment

Sharpness is the best Sword enchantment when you want to boost mele damage. It simply reduces the effort required to take down anyone that comes your way. Sharpness is effective against all kinds of mobs.

Sharpness can also be applied to Axe and increases melee damage. In the Java edition, Sharpness enchantment sums 0.5 extra damage, while in the Bedrock Edition, every level of Sharpness enchantment adds 1.25 extra damage.

A player will require Anvil to apply the highest level of Sharpness to a wooden, stone, iron, diamond, or netherite weapon. In addition, you can obtain the highest level of Sharpness through enchanting for golden weapons.

Place 4 iron ingots and 3 iron blocks in the 3×3 crafting grid to produce Anvil. Then fill the top row with the iron blocks and the last row with iron ingots. Finally, place 1 iron ingot in the center of the grid.

When sharpness is applied to swords:

  • Wooden & gold swords – base damage increases from 4 up to 7 when Sharpness level 5 applied.
  • Stone sword – damage increases from 6 up to 8 for maximum level of Sharpness.
  • Iron sword – damage increases from 7 up to 9 at Sharpness max level.
  • Diamond sword – damage level increases from 8 to 10 when maxed.
  • Netherite sword – damage increases from 9 up to 11 for maximum level of Sharpness.

To get Sharpness enchantment on your sword, you need to have an enchantment book. Additionally, you will require 3 quantities of Lapis Lazuli material from crafting, mining, and smelt with any fuel available. Then mining bookshelves will give you an enchanted book.

Once you have mined an enchantment book, open the crafting table and put your enchanted book there. Next, select Sharpness from your inventory and enchant your sword with Sharpness. Thus you can reach up to level 5 on Sharpness.

4. Looting (Max level: 3)

Looting-enchantment

Minecraft world is all about gathering the best loots, mining, scavenging, and crafting to get even better loots to upgrade your overall gameplay experience. So if you are after the best items in the game, looting is a must-have enchantment on your sword.

Looting is equivalent to the Fortune enchantment in Minecraft used on pickaxes and shovels for mining purposes. Regardless, looting enchantment on swords increases the number of drops from killed mobs.

Without Looting enchantment, you have half a chance of receiving drops when your sword kills a mob. Additionally, these loots might be uncommon or common. When you add this perk to your sword, you can turn the odds in your favor and manipulate them to get more uncommon drops.

Looting enchantment increases the maximum number of items for most common drops by 1 per level. The chance of an uncommon drop also increases with a second attempt to drop if the original drop attempt fails. The success likelihood of the second attempt is level / (level + 1) which is 3/4

  • Looting can’t affect Mobs with no drops, like bats, endermites, and bees.
  • Looting also does not increases the amount of dropped fishes by fish mobs.
  • Looting does not affect the amount of wool dropped by sheep too.

How to Get Max Looting Enchantment?

First of all, you need to have the Looting enchantment for your sword. Additionally, it would be best to get books in your inventory for this enchantment. Then combining the books with Looting enchantment will earn Looting III for your sword.

You can get the Looting III perk by setting up a villager’s farm.

5. Unbreaking (Max Level: 3)

Unbreaking

In Minecraft, weapons, tools, armors, and other items have a certain level of durability. Overusing a specific item leads to its breakpoint. The good thing is you can repair most of the items in the game.

Most of the swords are thereby repairable, excluding Netherite swords. Netherite swords are the strongest in the game after the nether update with +8 attack damage. However, you have to be mindful of its utilization, preferably economical with this one.

Unbreaking enchantment makes sense here, reducing the chance of your sword’s durability being lessened. In other words, it increases the sword’s durability. Unbreaking enchants sound similar to Mending; however, unlike Mending, Unbreaking enchants won’t utilize your earned experience points to increase the weapon’s durability.

Therefore Unbreaking is probably one of the most essential and best Sword enchantments in Minecraft you would want to have on your sleeve. If you want your swords to last long in the competitive world of Minecraft, you must use this enchantment.

Even though Unbreaking reduces the chance of breaking a weapon, it won’t make any weapon everlasting. Unbreaking can also be applied to armors, weapons, shears, and fishing rods.

With this enchantment, on average, tools last level + 1 time more extended. Unbreaking is rarely compatible, so you won’t be able to assemble this enchantment with most of the other enchantments.

To earn Unbreaking enchantment on your sword:

  • You will have to find an enchanted book fishing with a fishing rod.
  • You can find this inside a chest.
  • You can make a villager trading farm and then keep on breaking and changing your lectern. Repeating this process will you get your desired enchantment.

6. Sweeping Edge (Max level: 3)

Sweep-Edge_minecraft

You may go out on a hardcore map full of enemies where you need all kinds of help you can get. In such maps, you only get one shot. If you die, you die, game over. There’s no room for respawns.

It would be best to have a sweeping edge on such maps capable of killing a row of three enemies in 4-5 sweeps, that too with an ordinary Netherite sword with no additional enchantments.

This perk demands only 2-3 strikes to slash multiple enemies when you have a hard time. It defiantly a must-have enchantment to beat whatever comes your way in Minecraft. Due to its range of effects, Sweeping Edgequickly becomes one of the best enchantments for a sword in Minecraft.

The benefit of the sweeping edge depends on in-game situations. After this enchantment, damage dealt with mobs by each hit increases 50%, 67%, and 75% of the regular sword’s attack damage for all three levels.

Those enemies who didn’t receive any direct hit by the sword will not be affected. Sweeping Edge enchantment is available only in the Java version of Minecraft.

This enchantment is perfect if your player has weak sweep attacks that take longer to cause enough damage. The highest level of a sweeping edge is 3.

7. Fire Aspect (Max level: 2)

Fire aspect in minecraft

Another excellent enchantment among Minecraft’s best is Fire Aspect. This enchantment brings a damage boost to the sword and sets enemies on fire, causing chaos and leaving them disoriented, making it easier to defeat them. However, this perk does not act against enemy mobs; instead is suited for player vs. player battles.

Fire Aspect enchantment increases fire ticks by 80 (4 seconds of burning) per level to the target. With this enchantment on the sword, the target receives three damage with level I enchantment and seven damage with level II, respectively.

Another advantage of this perk is that it forces a mob to drop cooked meat. For instance, if a mob usually drops meat when killed, the mob will drop cooked meats with the Fire aspect. However, if the mob is in water, the fire aspect does not impact.

The fire aspect enchantment is not limited to increased damage, getting an advantage over other players, or collecting ready-to-eat meat. A sword with fire aspect perk can also be used to light candles, campfires, and ignite blocks on TNT. Must be aware, you can accidentally set your player with Fire aspect swords while fighting against enemies.

Knockback increases a sword’s knockback capacity. Perfect for creating space for your player to survive when surrounded by hordes of zombies.

Each level of Knockback enchantment increases three blocks ranging from the base knockback. Therefore, the highest number of blocks it can add is six without commands.

Knockback on diamond swords can add 1.6 attack speed and seven attack damage when on the highest level. For a similar effect on the bow, you can use Punch enchantment which applies knockback to the arrow shot.

9. Curse of Vanishing (Max level: 1)

Curse-of-vanishing-1

Curse of Vanishing is one of the finest sword enchantments in Minecraft. However, it’s not about increasing your sword’s damage; instead, protecting your loots in player vs. player battle.

This way, your essential loots remain safe even if you made up your mind to enter the battleground – make sure you have counted on the Curse of Vanishing enchantment. It’s a perfect way to avoid costly death.

Apart from swords, this enchantment is compatible with the most significant number of different items such as defense, attack, and directional items.

If you are playing on single-player hardcore difficulty, Curse of Vanishing will not help cause death is permanent.

10. Mending

Mending

Mending is another necessary sword enchantment in Minecraft to help increase the overall longevity of items using experience points. This enchantment restores persistence using XP orbs, and those who have XPs farms can repair their items that have this enchantment.

You can apply Mending to swords and other items in the game which have durability elements. The repair rate depends on each point of experience contained in the orb. During restoration, the experience left in the orb is appended to the player’s total experience.

Mending does not apply to items that are not damaged or fully repaired. Unlike others, Mending is a treasure enchantment, and you can obtain it from chest loot, raids, fishing, or trading.
